Hello everyone! Welcome to Weekly Money Roundup! Here I wrap up happenings here at Color Me Frugal during the week and share with you some of my favorite posts that I enjoyed from other sites this week. There were some pretty awesome articles making the rounds in the personal finance blogosphere this week, so I hope you’ll enjoy! If you haven’t already, please considering Following us on Twitter or Liking us on Facebook.
I’ve been struggling with my email this week, peeps. I usually try to stay on top of my email and get right back to folks when they email me, but lately the combination of keeping up with everything with the blog AND email has been a little overwhelming. I know there have got to be other bloggers out there who get a ton of email and feel the same way. It’s hard! So if you emailed me this week and I haven’t emailed you back yet- I’m not ignoring you, I promise! I tend to get caught up on weekends…
It’s been cold this week in my neck of the woods. We have a pot of flowers outside on our front porch and we might have to bring it in the garage tonight because it looks like it’s going to freeze. But other than the last couple days its been fairly warm and we’ve gotten a TON of rain, which has been awesome for our lawn. Last year was a “building year” for our lawn (which basically means that it looked like the Sahara at the beginning of last summer). So to see it looking green at this point is, well… new. And good! We might not even have to water much this spring or summer if these rains continue (we aren’t super crazy about our lawn or anything- looking somewhat alive and some shade of green is usually enough for us).
Speaking of water, I just have to mention that we recently got our water bill and AGAIN for like the fourth month in a row it’s been super low. That means the verdict is in folks- our new water efficient shower head officially rocks! We cannot believe that the drop in cost on our water bill has been this dramatic. We’ve also noticed that we literally never run out of hot water anymore (we used to run out when we both wanted to shower one after another). It’s pretty awesome! I’ll put a link to the showerhead we got below, in case you’re interested- it wasn’t even that expensive- less than $8!!
Below are the posts we published this week:
Monday May 12- What is Passive Income?
Wednesday May 14- Work Smarter, Not Harder!
Here are some articles we enjoyed from other sites this week:
Shannon at The Heavy Purse writes, To Save for Retirement or College? Which is the Better Choice? I was very interested to read this article because my hubby and I are planning to adopt soon, and that means that we’ve started thinking about something that we never thought about before: saving for college. I always appreciate Shannon’s savvy financial advice on all matters related to money and parenthood.
Adam at Money Bulldog writes, Not All Debt is Bad, But All Debt is a Risk. I really appreciated this post because I tend to agree completely. I do think that there can be some “good” debt… but we’re still trying to get rid of all of our debt anyway because we don’t want the risk. We also fear that debt could potentially anchor us to our jobs, which is something we’re trying to avoid!
Kraig at Create My Independence writes, 15 Things You Can do TODAY to Stop Relying on a Job You Hate. I thought this was a great post and points out a sad fact about workers today- plenty of us hate our jobs yet keep turning up at work day after day. For anyone out there in this position, Kraig offers some great tips for things you can do to start your journey to a new place.
Bre at The Weight of Debt writes, Bursting the Life Bubble on a Budget. I love this post because Bre offers some great suggestions for ways to expand your horizons in small ways AND for cheap. That’s what I call win-win!
Amanda at Ready for Zero writes, 24 Ways to Pay Off Your Debt Faster. This is really a great list of possible ways to get the debt gone faster. Anyone who is currently dealing with debt should definitely check out this post!
