Did everyone have a good holiday weekend (in the US?) Ours was an exceptionally exciting and at the same time boring 4th of July! As I recently mentioned in this post, we adopted a baby about a week and a half ago. Our sweet baby girl was born in a different state and we traveled there for about ten days when she was born and stayed there until we got the green light from the attorneys to leave. So it has been a very exciting couple of weeks for us! Emotional, but exciting. That being said, as we’ve been getting into the groove of parenthood our lives have basically been revolving around feeds, diaper changes, and cat naps lately! We didn’t even consider attending any fireworks shows over the holiday, as we’ve seen fireworks a million times before and sleep seems more important at this point in our lives.
I have to say, so far my favorite thing about being a parent is the simple joy of going for a walk with my hubby, our two dogs, and our precious baby girl in her car seat-stroller caddy after dinner in the evenings. It’s the little things that I am really appreciating right now. Thank you so much to all of you who have left comments congratulating us. We truly feel blessed to have so much support not only from friends and family in our day-to-day life, but from those of you in the blogosphere as well. I love blogging so I plan to keep on blogging into mommyhood as much as possible, although possibly at a reduced frequency for at least a few weeks. And the great thing about adopting a child and becoming a new parent is that it has already given me lots to write about from a personal finance perspective. 🙂
Below are the posts we published this week:
Monday July 7- How to Get a Grip on Your Emotional Spending
Tuesday July 8- I Am A Momma Bear
Here are some articles we enjoyed from other sites this week:
Julie at Finance Girl writes, How to Get the Job of Your Dreams. I like this post because Julie does a great job of addressing how to pull yourself out of the rut of a job that simply pays the bills and get you to a job that you enjoy! A very important post for anyone who has ever desired “more” in terms of job satisfaction.
Holly at Get Rich Slowly writes, Student Loan Debt: Learning to Save Yourself. In this post Holly shares a great motivational story of how one couple paid off over $80k in student loan debt. As someone who is also struggling to pay off student loan debt I can readily identify with this and find motivation in Lance and Tori’s story! A great read.
Laurie at The Frugal Farmer writes, 7 More Ways to Save Money on Groceries. I love this post because it applies to everyone- who doesn’t need to eat and buy groceries? Laurie is a pro at saving money in this area and she shares some of her best tips here! Definitely worth a read.
Michelle at See Debt Run writes, Good Buy, Baby! Since the hubs and I are new parents as of last week I was super interested to read this post! I would say that one of the most daunting things about becoming a parent is the financial impact, so I am very interested in any and all ways to save money! This post offers some great ones.
Kraig at Create My Independence writes, How (and Why) You Can Accomplish Anything You Put Your Mind To. I enjoyed this post because it was my daily dose of motivation! Sometimes it can be hard to be on the journey to financial independence. We throw all our spare cash at our debt right now and some days it feels like we’ll never be debt free, much less financially independent! Kraig’s post is a great reminder that we have unlimited power when we put our minds to something and are driven to succeed.
CMF’s favorite FREE money management tools!
Some of the best online tools out there for money management are at Personal Capital, and the awesome news is that they are all FREE! Cash flow tracker, 401(k) fee analyzer, investment checkup, net worth monitoring, and many more! I’m a net worth junkie, so the net worth monitor is my favorite. Check out my Personal Capital review here, or click here to check out all the awesome tools for yourself!
So very excited for you that you are having fun with baby girl. Yes, priorities definitely change when kids come along, and sleep moves way up on the list. 🙂 Have an awesome weekend, Dee!
Congrats! Enjoy mommyhood… and sleep 🙂
Alright Dee, you’re starting to make me jealous with this whole parent thing, lol…I can’t wait to be a daddy! Congrats again, I’m so happy for you guys.
I’m glad everything is going so well with your new baby. It really is those simple things that ultimately mean the most. I don’t regret spending money on our vacations together and I also know that our simple afternoons at the beach will also be some of my most treasured memories. And just wait until she says Mommy and Daddy. 🙂 Have a great weekend!
Glad everything is going well 🙂
Is everything finalized yet? Will we get to see a picture? Enjoy her, they grow so fast!
WOW! That is huge news!!! Congrats to you and your growing family 🙂
